About

“Summer was the perfect time to take my time with the material and thoroughly learn the information inside and out.”
William Tjaden (Notre Dame Class of 2021)
Notre Dame Learning’s Office of Digital Learning (ODL) partners with instructors, colleges, schools, departments, and administrative offices across campus to deliver the University’s Summer Online Program, which runs during Notre Dame’s standard Summer Session and annually enrolls approximately 1,000 students.
What to Know About Summer Online Courses
- All Summer Online courses are Notre Dame courses, offering Notre Dame credit. If you are a Notre Dame student and have questions about satisfying requirements through Summer Online courses, check with your DUS or DGS.
- No previous affiliation with Notre Dame is required. Summer Online courses are open to anyone with a high school degree. If you are a student somewhere other than Notre Dame and have questions about applying these credits to your degree program, please consult with your home institution.
- Students meet with their instructors and classmates once or twice a week in live online sessions typically held in the evenings. These class meetings are a required and essential part of the course.
- In addition to the live sessions, students, independently or in groups, work through on-demand content. This work can be done anytime, anywhere, but there are specific weekly deadlines, so staying on track is critical to success in online classes.
- Small class sizes ensure students benefit from peer-to-peer interaction and close attention from their instructors.
- These fully online courses offer the same rigor and excellence that define Notre Dame on-campus courses.
- Notre Dame faculty and staff may use their tuition remission benefit towards Summer Online courses for themselves and their spouses. Please note certain uses of this benefit can be considered taxable income. For more information, consult this resource in the HR Self Service Center, which also includes details about educational benefits for dependents.
